I wanted to share a beautiful short poem from Hafiz for Mother’s Day and I found that I could not choose one or the other, so I offer both in celebration of all on this day. Injoy! How Does It Feel To Be A Heart? “Once a young woman asked me, “How does it feel to be a man?" “My dear, Then she said, And this time I replied, “I view gender My dear, ‘How does it feel to be a heart?’ For all I know is Love, This is a question I ask of all Mothers today: How does it feel to be a heart? And to the following poem I can only think of a mother’s pure love and care and delight with Hafiz in the thought and feeling of such love. “In the morning That feeling That feeling You put Your lips on my forehead
And I replied,
I am not so sure."
“Well, aren’t you a man?"
As a beautiful animal
That people often take for a walk on a leash
And might enter in some odd contest
To try to win strange prizes.
A better question for Hafiz
Would have been,
And I find my heart Infinite
And Everywhere!"Keeping Watch
When I began to wake,
It happened again–
That You, Beloved,
Had stood over me all night
Keeping watch,
That as soon as I began to stir
And lit a Holy Lamp
Inside my heart."
Happy Mother’s Day
