Building A Life

“Character isn’t something you were born with
and can’t change, like your fingerprints.
It’s something you weren’t born with
and must take responsibility for forming."

— Jim Rohn

I have two favorite stories that I learned from an early mentor, Jim Rohn. They both have to do with buildings.

One. There are two ways to have the tallest building. One is to build the tallest building and the other is to tear the other tall buildings down. One is to become known as a builder and the other to be known as a destroyer.

Two. Someone decides they are going to build a tall building and they get the permits and do the excavation and then begin bringing building materials to the site. They keep bringing materials as if they are getting ready, but they never build anything. Activity is not a success in itself. Preparation is not a success in itself. Even preparation meeting opportunity is not a success in itself. When preparation meets opportunity there needs to be a commitment to build and to keep building until it is built.
